Why has my computer gotten so slow?
What’s likely going on
Years of accumulated temporary files, too many programs starting automatically when the computer turns on, and a hard drive that's nearly full are the most common everyday causes — genuine security issues (viruses/malware) are a real possibility too, but less common than people assume.
Is this a DIY job or worth calling someone?
A real cleanup — checking what's running automatically, clearing out unused programs, freeing up storage — meaningfully speeds most computers back up, especially ones that have never had this kind of maintenance done.
